UNDIP Takes Part in Harvard National Model United Nations

SEMARANG, KOMPAS.com - A 15-member delegation of Diponegoro University (Undip) in Semarang will next year participate in the Harvard National Model United Nations (HNMUN), simulation of real UN forum to discuss certain topics.

"The HNMUN which will take place on February 16-19, 2012 will be participated in by representatives of institutes of higher learning all over the world," Banun Dyah Ardani, a member of the delegation, said here on Thursday.

Ardani said the forum was aimed at compiling ideas from younger generations, particularly university students from all over the world to assist the UN in creating world peace. She said members of the Undip delegation to the forum were chosen from different faculties at the university.

Although the Undip students would represent Indonesia at the HNMUN they would not be allowed to come up with domestic problems at the forum but they must raise issues of international concern.

Undip rector Prof. Sudharto P. Hadi said he was proud of his students’ participation in the prestigious forum where delegates of universities from all over the world gather to discuss certain topics.

HNMUN was established 50 years ago aimed at giving university students worldwide a better knowledge of the forum and the environment attributed to it. HNMUN offers the experiences of real time disputes, conflicts, negotiations, and problem solving just like UN offer at higher level.

Every year over 3,000 delegates from all over the world attend the forum to discuss a multitude of issues at the forefront of international relations.
